c.c 3.1

In an article by Quora, Arsene Hodali, a student, gives his input on the question and article entitled, "What Are Some Common Forms of Sexism That Men Face?" In the article, he gives a number of examples, which to me are pretty accurate. Here are a few examples.

Men have feelings but are expected to be tough enough not to show them. In a relationship, they are looked up to, to be the strongest of them both. Arsene Hodali states in the text, "Men are conditioned to reject anything feminine within themselves such as emotions, frailty, and so on (homophobia could be argued as a physical and violent manifestation of this conditioned rejection)."

Children who are not in school and are at home often seem to love their stay at home mothers more than the fathers.. Why? Because the fathers work to provide a stable home, the tend to be away as much as the children would like. Also, this could be the reason children, particularly boys, tend to be more feminine.

In reference to the article, Hodali notes, "When a man and a woman commit the same crime, the man will most times receive a harsher sentence and be assumed the initiator if the man and woman were partners in crime (this is largely sexist towards women in that it believes men to be more in control of their own actions, but it's a double-edged sword)."

The study found that men receive sentences that are 63 percent higher, on average, than their female counterparts. A 2009 study suggested the difference in sentencing might arise because "judges treat women more leniently for practical reasons, such as their greater caretaking responsibility." Past studies have also found that minority men are, on average, given longer prison sentences than white men convicted of the same crimes.

I, personally can relate to this because I see all the time how judges sentence minorities a harsher punishment; moreover, I have also experienced it as well. Referring to the Zimmerman trial, he shot a 17 year old boy claiming he thought he was up to no good. His bad judgment, a claim that was totally wrong, Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin on the spot.

A Manhattan researcher states in an article written by Corey Kilgannon, " a high school is actually not Manhattan's saddest spot..." professor Yaneer Bar-yam, told media outlets that "Hunter High School, an elite  public school on the upper east side, had the highest percentage of " negative sentiment" posts of any place in Manhattan."  Through out  the research the they read the twitter posts of hunter college high school and reviewed all the negative posts.
Hunter High was the source of an unusually high percentage of negative Twitter messages, even higher than hospital locations and spots with particularly frustrating rush hour traffic; although, these posts where also posted while there where several reasons for a teenager to be stressed out. All the posts where gathered when the students had a high work load, and  where coming back from spring break also where facing final exams. Being a high school student myself, in the 12th grade, I understand the stress level coming for exam time and over load of work that comes with it also. To get your feelings out at the end of the day feels nice and just make counter act with a long stressful and negative post!
When the students and staff found out about the study they where baffled; therefor,  leading to an article on the new York times magazine focusing on the reaction at the school  that prompted an outpouring of comments and e-mails from readers questioning the validity of the study. Some pointed out that "Hunter collage High School was not mentioned in the study." Others wondered If researchers simply confused the high school with the Hunters Point subway station in Queens, Which itself was named as a "negative-tweeting" spot in the study. Many students interviewed for the article pointed pointed out that very few of their peers used twitter and that most students were happy to be at Hunter. Following  the many comments and e-mails assailing the study, the times contacted professor Bar-Yam for clarification  and more information. He stood by the naming of the high  school and wrote, in a note. That was posted in the comments section of the online article, that he had not confused Hunter and Hunters Point. After all the work the professor put into the study and finding out the information I highly doubt that he would "mistake" hunter for Hunter Point.
Professor Bar-Yam later said " He did a more detailed analysis  of the data and realized that he had incorrectly interpreted a data map that seemed to indicate that the High school was the source of a flurry of negative posts during the period of recording the data in spring 2012." Closer analysis revealed that  the posts had actually come from a single twitter account "From a region just south of the school," Said professor Bar-Yam, Who declined to identify the account or the exact location of the posts emanated. Professor Bar-yam stated " he saw that Hunter Collage High School's students were returning from vacation during the period of data collection," and also Say's that " This provided a rationale" why Hunter could be the source of the posts.

The Author Roundup: Low College Completion Rates, 21st Century Skills." The Education Trust put out a new study yesterday, "Charting A Necessary Path," that shows troubling college completion rates for low-income and minority students. The data come from a collaborative project, of 24 public college and university systems that are committed to improving outcomes for disadvantaged students. It's impossible to look at these data without asking what the K-12 system can do to make sure that the neediest students get the strong preparation and support they need to flourish in higher ed. The Washington Post's story about the study is here.
Washington Post columnist Jay Mathews has a nice post today about a couple of new books that take on the 21st century skills debate. Very interesting, clearly-made arguments on a topic that can be frustratingly abstract (not to mention strongly debated). The high school space would be a prime target for change in this arena, so it's worth watching. What are advocates of 21st century skills actually advocating? And how would their vision be translated into curriculum and instruction? Read  Stephen Sawchuk's story on this for another interesting perspective.
And, speaking of things that could be coming to a high school near you, take a look at my colleague Debra Viadero's very good story on a much-argued-about study on charter-management organizations. Districts have increasingly thrown up their hands trying to fix stubbornly bad high schools, and brought in C Mos or private companies to give it a whirl. The feds are hot on improving high schools, and have expressly invited charter-management groups to play a role in that work. Again: worth watching.

Framing Hanley review

Framing Hanley is a band of 5 extreamly talented people who have a very interesting name and variety of music. The bands name was originally "Embers Fade", The bands name changed when a friend of the group named ashley hanley died in a car accident she was a close friend to all the band members and they got the name because she loved to take pictures of the band and they just used her last name and now boy's and girls you have framing hanley! They formed their band in 2005, they released Thier first album in 2007 entitled " the moment". High-school friends Chris Vest (drums) and Luke McDuffee (bass) met vocalist Kenneth Nixon upon entering college, while guitarists Brandon Wootten and Tim Huskinson joined the lineup soon after.  Framing Hanley’s second album A Promise to Burn is full of tight-fisted melodies, soaring guitars, and yearning harmonies that express the joy of artistic expression and the duality of being in a rock band with lines like My life is a WarZone/ torn between what’s right and wrong (WarZone). Unlike The Moment, which was written by a bunch of giddy kids who had never left their home town, A Promise to Burn was culled from years of experience, revealing both the triumphs and tribulations of being in a successful rock band. It’s an honest, unflinching record that illustrates how hard it can be to find the silver lining inside the dark clouds and at the same time, how some of the best rewards can come from not giving up on dreams, says the band.  Through Facebook and Twitter, the band has uploaded a video explaining everything that has happened to them in the past year. Nixon explains the band leaving their record label and the struggle to make another album. They created a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their record, believing that their fans could cover the cost of making the new album by only asking a dollar per fan. Framing Hanley enter the studio to record their successfully funded album. On August 17, 2012, Framing Hanley revealed the title of their third album would be "The Sum Of Who We Are".  Framing Hanley’s second album A Promise to Burn is full of tight-fisted melodies, soaring guitars, and yearning harmonies that express the joy of artistic expression and the duality of being in a rock band with lines like My life is a WarZone/ torn between what’s right and wrong (WarZone). book review: The ghost of the mcbride house

What is it about the McBride House that serves as a beacon to the dead? Built in the oldest town in Oklahoma by physician George McBride in 1895, this Victorian home is rife with ghosts from the past. Ghostly parties at 2:00 a.m., spirits calling family members and houseguests by name, dolls that talk even after the batteries have been removed...The Back family has been subjected to impossibly bright lights, loud crashing noises, weird shrieks even ominous odors such as decaying matter.
Although each had a different approach to how they entered a room the story was exciting to read knowing you have four ghost's in you're house and having children even though two of the ghost themselves were children. A little girl and little boy along with mrs. back's two children froston and de'veroux  the children never harmed one another but sometimes the ghost children would scare the others, but, who wouldn't scare someone if you were a ghost........right? If I were a ghost I would scare people all the time!
Each ghost in the McBride House has a personality of its own, including one entity whose antics are downright terrifying. But instead of fleeing, the Back family remained and gradually got to know their "spirited" residents. The back family has never been harmed by their ghosts just scared from time to time.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys ghost stories! This family goes threw years of having their ghosts with them and never had an serious problems all n all it was a good book that I enjoyed very much

Cc # 3 drug to treat asthma could relieve hive's patient of chronic itch

A drug that treats asthma is believed that it could relieve the itch of a hives patient.
Hives is a more common issue than you may think , but there may be a medicine to help relieve it's symptoms. " an asthma drug has shown promise in relieving itchiness for patients with chronic hives.” this was revealed in the article I read " drug to treat asthma could relive hives patient."
The drug amalizumab, known by it's brand name , xolair... In the phase 3 trial, a monthly injection of the drug significantly reduces hives and itchiness this is a big step toward eradicating it.
If approved omalizumab could bring relief to those who suffer from chronic idiopathic urticaria, which for unknown reasons causes hives. This would help so many people who suffer from hives, and while it may not be as big of a disease as aids or cancer or as common as the flu it still sould be taken care of.
This is a text to world! This article rings enlightenment on ow big of an issue hives really are. It should and is being relieved, while hives isn't as bad as cancer nor as well know n as the flu it is a very serious disease and should be treated that way.

Cc#2 states force jobless to pay needless fees

The authors purpose is to make regular people aware of states that are making jobless people pay useless fees just for unemployment.
"..Jobless Americans are  paying millions in unnecessary fees to collect unemplyment benefits.." "The American Dream"..we all want it but how many of us honestly have even a small chance of achieving it? Very few. Why? Because we don't work for the government or we aren't the head of some multi-million dollar company.
Today's unemployed  citizens use debt cards to get there money " people are using fee heavy cards instead of getting their payment direct deposited to their bank accounts." This is what I read in an article recently. The choice of cards over direct depositing in most likely due to a lack of information.
" In five states-California,Indiana,Kansas,Maryland and Nevada unemployed people aren't offered direct depositing at all" Personally I find it wrong that they aren't offered this option. They may be jobless but most of the time it's not by choice.
I made a text to world connection. This connection was made because I see homeless and jobless people on the news and in the papers n they all seem to be complaining about the same thing...that they're losing their un employment benefits.
Many Americans now days don't have jobs and live off unemployment, due to the economy or just being lazy. But they are American and if they try to get a job, maybe they due deserve a little help from the government.

Cc# 1all girls team shows robots aren't just for boys

The authors purpose is to show that not everything is just for boys.
Not everything is just for boy's to do, and the "ottuimwa, Iowa  all-girls robotics team is providing that engineering isn't just for boy's" in an article I recently read, an all girls robotics engineering team is proving that not all things are for boys.
" the team hosted the first tech challenge or FTC qualifier  at Indian Hills in january and represented ottuimwa and girls everywhere at state." while women have many more rights than they used to, men still think they are more important.
As I have said many times boy's don't have all the say in things. "I mean it's not an all boy thing..." said by Kenzie mcCoy another OHS senior.
My connection, text to self it irritates me that men think they have all the say. Girls can do anything a man can do and if not at times better than what a man can do.
In conclusion I hope this helps to prove that girls can and will do everything a man can do if not better.

13 reasons's why book review

A book I have recently read is jay asher's  famous 13 reasons why, a mysterious and exciting novel. The whole book kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what story she was going to tell next and who it was about.I loved reading this book it got me thinking about not just my life but about other's lives also.
I loved the way that clay's thought's were mixed in with what she was saying, but you had to be careful and read everything correctly  to know who's thoughts you were reading. throught the book I had just a little trouble reading it and keep having to go back  because I would get ahead of myself and i would get lost in whoever's thoughts I was in. The book was astonishing and really gave alot of enlightenment on young girls lives I know it did mine.
The story is not just about one thing that makes a girl kill herself. It's about a girl who had thing s build and build and build on  her untill sh efinally cracked under the pressure of having everyone around you judge you and make you feel a certasain way because they don't  know the real truth about that person and don't care to know just go by the rumors and not by the truth in all reality they ruined a young girls life and changed her whole family and what could have been her future.
In all truthfulness this book is amazing and will keep you thinking and if you're a teen and  you read this, possibly it can help you or a friend before it's to late, make you think about the little things that you do to people that you think are cute and funny but really affect the other person more than you think.
The one thing I like about this book is that I like how the author really makes you think that they are real people that they could show the true emotions of a  person and in the book the way he explain's how they feel especially Clay Jenson, in the book the author potray's the sad feelings and the feelings he had for the main character Hannah Baker!
I highly recommend anyone read  this book! It sends out a message that could not hurt anyone in the world to know!

gunmen kills student

Gunmen Kills Students at Nigerian College

In our world today a lot of crazy things happen, one of those crazy things being a shooting, happens all the time. Everytime you turn on the news it always seems like the same story in a different place. This time, a gunmen opens fire in North Eastern Nigeria at a college, killing and injuring an unknown amount of people. The scary thing about this is even though its across the world a shooting can happen anywhere. You never know what kind of danger you are going to be in when going somewhere. The attack took place at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi in Adamawa state. Police don't know wether the shooting was caused by a political feud inside the college or if it was targeted by the Islamic insurgents. Its scary to hear about a shooting, but its even more scary when you dont even know the cause of it.

Today, i'd say mostly in America, People just lose their minds and do crazy things that not only impact their life but others aswell. Alot of innocent people are hurt because of stupid things people do. I don't think there is any way to stop this sort of violence or rage because its out of everyones control. I don't think of any truely good reason to shoot someone, although I don't know much about politics or other countries hatred for eachother wether its religion or politics I don't see any reason for anyone to take someones life. I wonder what gos on in peoples head in the middle of a shooting like "Am I going to die?" Or just the shooters head, what is going on in there? There is no good understanding of why someone does this but its something that will continue to happen as the human race goes on.

Flo Rida Donates a Contender for Worst Football Uniform of All Time to His HighSchool alma mater

Early in the 2012 season, Atlantic (Fla.) High unveiled a 'unique' neon uniform which quickly became known as the worst football uniform of all time, and I have to say I agree. In honor of Carol City's Highs 50th anniversary which happens to coincide with the football teams 2013 football season, Flo Rida paid Futuristic Woo to create new football uniforms. They, in my opinion, look ridiculous and are an abomonation. My reason for thinking this is because;

  • There is a Native Americans head that splits awkwardly across their crotch.
  • The letters and numbers look like they are made out of duct tape or maybe even Tetris Blocks?
  • Sublimated Arrowheads that look more like upside down spades, ( the deck of cards not the gardening utensil) than ancient/ sacred weaponry on sleeves.
  • Bright orange helmets with feathers, overcrowded into a Michigan wolverine-style pattern.
There is plenty more wrong with these uniforms, but to be fair the helmet would make a nice additional something to their original uniforms. Luckily though, this highschool didn't have to pay a dime for these crimes of fashion, thanks to Flo Rida and his record label IMG Strong Arm.

current connection marijuana vote!

An article in the Batesville Daily Guard "Is Medical 'Pot' Coming This Fall Ya'll" informs the public about the pro's and con's of voting for and against the medicinal use of marijuana. Voters should take caution when deciding to vote yes or no. They should also take time to sincerely vote because there can be good and bad outcomes from it. Many people think that this topic is an irrelevant and should not even be given a chance but there also is a bunch of people who disagrees and says it should legal so everyone votes and the government comes to an agreement

she's everything!

Today I was listening to the song she's everything by brad paisley. I make a connection with this song because my boyfriend said this song reminded him of me. Most of the lyrics make him think of me. The song say's "A holey pair of jeans
She looks great in cheap sunglasses
She looks great in anything"

To him he thinks of me because I wear holey jeans alot and also cheap sun glasses because I don't like to spend alot of money on something I know isnt going to last very long! the last lyric "she looks great in anything"
Is because he tells me that I look great in anything and that makes me feel special.
This part of the lyrics are because he always says that i'm everything he has ever needed or wanted and in all admittance sometimes that's not true but hey, gotta listen to the sweet stuff to get over the crappy stuff! When i'm not around he talk's about me alot and says how much he misses me.
"she's everything I ever wanted
And everything I need
I talk about her, I go on and on and on
'Cause she's everything to me"

I could go threw every lyric in the song and explain it one by one but that would take forever! I make a connection to this sont because it is very immportant to me and the future life I will have with my boyfriend. I will love this song forever and always because it brings me a great memory in life and i want to keep as many of those as I possibly can.

why romney should lose!

I was reading the newspaper today and came across an article titled "why romney should lose!" I got interested and started to read. I believe I made a connection with this article because it involves me, family, friends and everyone in the united states. The state why not to vote for mitt romney, because he is two-faced. He stated to massachusetts voters that they should vote for him because he's pro-choice, pro-gay rights and "progressive." Now he is saying that we should vote for him because he is anti-choice, anti-gay rights and  "severely conservative" he is unfit to be a world leader in anyway! mitt romney threatened new war on iran...failing to acknowlegde the thousands of american troops fighting and dying in afganistan. he also is demanding a decade of tax returns of all the nominees for vice president aven though we hevent seen any of his tax returns. he still has not relaeased his returns for 2011, even though he has stated in the past that he will. If romney gets voted for president our heatlth care will go down the drain, our troops could have to start a new war in iran even though they are still fighting in afganistan! in my own opnion we shouldnt vote for someone who is anti- choice! we need to vote somone into office that will get us better heath plans, help the middle class people, and bring our troops home! my nor anyone elses family should struggle because there is someone in the office who shouldn't belong there!
